
R. John
Young, Ph.D., founder and chairman of the McLaughlin Young
Group, is an international authority on the leadership
of
change and especially its impact on cultural integration,
organizational effectiveness and the health and profitability of corporations.
For more than 30 years he has been coaching chief executives and their direct
reports to lead change. He specializes in assessing leadership potential, working
with a leadership team to develop its change management plan and then coaching
each executive to appropriately lead, collaborate or follow. He uses both established
and proprietary instrumentation to help his clients truly know themselves, their
impact on others and what it is that attracts others to follow them.
With an undergraduate degree from the University of London and a doctorate degree
from Purdue University in the psychology of exercise, Dr. Young has a unique
and diverse academic background. He also completed postdoctoral research in the
psychology of aging at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He has published
numerous scientific papers on the psychology of exercise and adult development
and aging and has taught at Washington University, Purdue University and the
University of North Carolina. He is a member of the American Psychological Association
and is a past president of the Society of Prospective Medicine. A division of the Institute for Health and Productivity Management, the Society of Prospective Medicine is a professional
association dedicated to the scientific estimation of health risks and to the
communication of those risks to individuals and organizations.
Following his academic career, Dr. Young directed a corporate
human resources function, founded a rural-based institute
of preventive medicine and directed
an institute that was part of a major medical center in the southeast United
States. In 1987 he founded the McLaughlin Young Group that now consists of McLaughlin
Young Consulting, McLaughlin Young Employee Services and the McLaughlin Young Institute.
McLaughlin Young’s proprietary products, services and solutions are in
the areas of cultural integration, organizational effectiveness, leadership education
and coaching, executive assessment, management training and development, employee
assistance programs, health risk assessment and human factors research.
Dr. Young regularly conducts a highly interactive and self-discovering seminar
